Do you ever hear two voices just before you make that crucial decision………..most of us do, but habitually we tend to listen to the louder voice of the conscious mind and don’t pay heed to the smaller voice-that of our subconscious mind.
Why is that so? How do these two sets of minds work?
The functioning of premonitions (precognition- which means acquiring knowledge before the occurrence) is not exactly known, that is why some people possess them while others do not. One theory is that some people are more open or prone to psychic suggestion. A cause for the diminishing of this psychic ability in people is that a larger portion of the population has become less intuitive. With the advancement of the scientific age people have begun to rely less on their sensations and more on gadgets and external sources of information. It is just in recent years that science is investigating the importance of human intuition and sensation. The science is worth studying for ordinary persons like you and me, after all it has long been known that animals are aware of severe weather events before humans are; before the Tsunami hit a few years ago the animals had already left for higher ground.
Imagine, if only we could sharpen our abilities to read signals and apply these to our careers, business and other major life changing decisions. Would we not avert many a disasters, disappointments and damages?
What kind of Premonitions do we apply to our business? Don’t we all create extensive plans, run through reviews and approvals? And yet the mistakes seem to be waiting to happen. Does years of experience help in averting mistakes? Probably, experience helps identify commonly recurring mistakes and avert them. But then experience also brings fresh set of challenges like- breaking free from preset ways of thinking and preconceived notions. Is there a possibility that such pre-set ways can overpower or clog one’s mind enough to miss that tiny premonition that’s struggling to catch your attention?
Understanding these ‘Ps’ namely Premonition and Precognition could be doubly beneficial as against the ordinary ‘Ps’ of the marketing Product MIX. Isn’t it so? So how can you sharpen your premonition skills in business or at work?
Does it help to Listen? – How does one become a good listener and sharpen ones ability to read premonitions. How do you listen to your environment, the body language of people, conversations- in person, in email, in chat and other forms? Now you might feel, this is what we anyways do at work on a daily basis. But think hard and tell, do you really read the signals in depth? Premonitions do not work on surface. They are underneath the surface.
They really work strictly by the rule “Reading between the lines”, or “Reading behind the scenes”.
Does it help to Observe?- Hone your speed of thinking. Thinking begins from the point you see, observe and send the necessary observations to your brain for mental processing to the time when you act, if at all you chose to act. What is the co-relation between thinking and action? It’s that of few milliseconds for some people and and for some it takes a lifetime.
However closely monitored and practiced thinking does not come naturally as it is against human nature. Action is critical. The thinking process is important, but you can’t “overthink” things. If you want until circumstances are perfect before you take action, you’ll never do it. Keep in mind Nike’s slogan: “Just do it!”
Does it help to Absorb?- Too often in our world which is loaded with technology and gadgets designed for men and Women in a hurry to make it big, we fail to absorb the signals from our surroundings. The sound of the wind, the weird sound made by the animals or pets in the vicinity, a ripple in the water, a little spark in the electric wiring of your home, some unusual indicator, an odd mysterious aroma, a familiar aroma or odor, …it could really be anything which challenges your 5 senses or the sixth sense.
Example: Once Natalie was going for a sudden business meeting in a hurry, she quickly packed of her things from her desk, as she would head off to her home after the meeting. Her little inner voice told her to check if she has kept everything, business cards?
But, her louder dominant voice said, it has to be in her laptop bag and she would take it out and keep it handy on the way to the meeting. Later, on the way to the meeting she forgot about it, as she got busy chatting with her accompanying colleague, checking mails and coordinating for work. Finally, what was waiting to happen, happened. As she met the client’s side for the first time, she was the only one from her team, who didn’t have the business card, as she rummaged through her bag, she could not get her hands on her business card case at its usual place. And she had to make some uncomfortable excuse while accepting others cards. Could this have been averted, had she heard her inner voice? Yes indeed! On the way back Natalie rummaged through her bag, and found it in her bag in another pocket. The exercise which she was supposed to do on the way to the meeting was never done and the inner voice got lost in all the noise of the outside world.
On a lighter note, many of you must have experienced your bosses having the premonition of their teams not working effectively when they are away on business or on holiday. Hence they would ensure that they load you enough with ‘To dos’ while they are away…just so that “When the Cat is away, the mice don’t play”. But now is your chance to sharpen your premonition and wish it could be the other way round, where you predict the next challenging question your boss is going to throw at you, so you did get it right each time! Bravo!
